Every time I make or receive a call, I have to press the greyed-out SPEAKER ICON to have loud sound. Is there a way to have the Speaker turn (or keep) itself on automatically?

Every time a phone call comes in. It automatically is on speaker volume and it hurts my ears. Auto-Select Speaker for Calls Iphone8; Verizon I have Accessories >Voice Over>Audio> Auto-Select Speaker in Call turned off but it still turns on Speaker when I answer phone call. Is Verizon doing something? This did not happen with ATT. THANKS

If you only hear through speaker phone mode --> If your iPhone is stuck in headphone mode - Apple Support
