How to find people for which Photos.app has found additional fotos?

I have about 300 People named in the Photos Library. After adding new photos that contain pictures of people, the Photos.app starts analysing the new photos are finds (some of) the people on the new photos.

The additional assignments are offered for review when one double-clicks a person in the People overview. Sometimes, additional photo assignments are also offered after clicking "Confirm Additional Photos" at the bottom of the People/one person page.

BUT:

How to identify the People (among my ~300 individuals) that need review/confirmation??

Do I need to check them all one-by-one?

There is no such tool.

The best you can do is to search the recently imported photos for unnamed faces with a smart album.

And then to open the photos in this album to view them enlarged, with the faces circles around unnamed faces. (View > Show Faces names)

Create a smart album like this:

  • File > New Smart album
  • Match all:
  • Date added > is > in the last 30 Days
  • Person is (erase the name field and leave the name field empty)

Then click this smart album in the sidebar. Select the first found photo with a a new face ad view it enlarged. If the faces circle is around a face that you want to name, swipe up to the details below the face and and click the thumbnail to open the album for this person. Confirm the additional faces. In rare cases you will see the thumbnails of different people instead of the circled faces in the photos. This is an indication that Photos has paired this face with the wrong people album and you will have to look into each album and correct wrong matches.

Hi bwadmac,

We understand you'd like to identify someone in a picture. We're happy to help.

This page in the Photos User Guide has information about using the People feature:

Find and identify photos of people using Photos on Mac

It doesn't look like a bulk method is possible, other than the "Confirm Additional Photos", which you have tried.

We'd suggest closing the Photos app from Photos > Quit Photos and reopening. Also restarting your Mac is always a good idea when something unexpected happens. Then try to see if People can locate additional photos.

If People is still unable to match photos, we'd recommend contacting the Photos experts at Apple Support. Get Support

Select Music, Apps & Services > Mac apps > Photos

We hope this helps. Cheers!

Hi Jaym_8,

thanks for your reply.

I have no general problems with Photos like the ones you are assuming. Also, I have used the "Repair" function implemented in Photos (alt+cmd at launch) to find and fix potential problems. Matching people as such works. It works even automatically in the background - but this is part of the problem.

The point seems to be that Photos lacks any option to find people/persons/faces (among a large set that has already been named/defined) that have unconfirmed or unassigned photos. This problem comes up after each new import (of photos with people/faces). And it becomes more and more annoying the more people are named/defined in the People library.

The background function finds new faces and can assign some unequivocally. For others it needs additional feedback for training, and this feedback is requested when the user opens an individual person/face. But Photos does not offer a list of these cases, or a filter function to allow the user to work through these cases specifically.
