It sounds like you were having some trouble enabling FileVault. We can understand how important it is to be able to use this feature and we'll be glad to give you some tips that could help.
Since your Mac uses the date and time to determine when to contact the server, let's have you check to make sure that these settings are correct and set to automatic.

Also, are you using a stable Wi-Fi connection? Do you have any firewalls that would prevent your Mac from contacting the server?
