Mac Calendar "Server responded with an error" message

The server responded with an error (screen shot below)

it is referencing my Gmail account

What should I do?

How can I fix it?

The suggestion by the Community Specialist is useless. It doesn't address this very specific problem we all have.


Yesterday, I called AppleCare. Spoke to Luis (online chat). He sent me instructions to:

  1. Refresh the NVRAM
  2. Start in Safe Mode
  3. Delete those cache files and cookie files (which I think are mentioned in this article and are definitely in other articles which I found online).
  4. I also removed the gmail account, re-loaded it. And, I toggled calendars on/off several times.


Guess What? (Play TPIR losing horn here)


I'm not sure if this problem is with Apple or Google or both. But, obviously they (i.e. their systems) don't want to play nice with each other.


I hope that Apple and Google both jump on his quickly. I'm going to redo my calendars using my iCloud account (which is, I'm sure, exactly what Apple wants me to do)...but I have no choice. Price for being a fan-boy I guess


Sorry if this offends, I just think it is best to tell it like it is.

I am having exact same issue, i have my two google account calendars connected, and it's still showing me:The server responded with an error.

And i have to do the "enable this account" like ten times...

It's very frustrating, even when i can loose event in calendar. It's happening since big sur.

Classic Apple. Clearly an issue, but they fail to acknowledge it until it's resolved...

I have this happening across my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020) v. Big Sur 11.2.1 (20D74) & MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020) v. Big Sur 11.1


Interestingly, my old iMac from 2011 running Catalina seems OK - and is communicating with the Google Server fine....


Sort it out Apple. This is a disaster for work. I don't want to mess around deleting caches etc.

It seems that way... Quite shocking that they haven't picked this up day 1 of it starting. It's actually been a problem for around a week now at least...


Can't imagine gmail --> Calendar on Mac is a rare set up for people around the world, so would assume there are thousands of people with this problem...🙄


Sort it out apple!

Same here. It's a very big deal for my business right now to not have my Calendars working. At least we can figure it out together. For now I have downloaded the OneCalendar app which seems to import all my various google calendars without problem. This leads me to believe it's 100% an Apple issue and not Google. At least I can see al my cal's in one place with the new app but it sucks compared to the regular app. Can't wait to get a real fix for this.

Tried all of these steps. After reconnecting accounts, still have same calendar sync error. Also, the static calendar data that was there before is now gone too.


macOS Big Sur 11.2.1 running on MBP 16" 2019. Upgraded about a week ago. Calendar error started a couple of days ago.


Also have a MBA 2012 running Big Sur 11.2 and it too now exhibits same problem.

I will merely add that I'm having this problem as well all of a sudden and nothing I have been able to do has fixed it. It usually resolves itself after a bit but then comes back. Over the years calendar has had many problems. Has anyone had any experience with Fantastical?

I don't think there is an actual fix for this. The people who've achieved a fix probably had some lucky timing. This seems to be more of a server-side issue than a client-side one. The reason it seems that way is because of how widespread it is across different Macs and OS versions. FWIW it seems to only be affecting sync with the Mac. iPhone still seems good. The only thing that deleting caches and all that nonsense did for me was to stop the server error message, but it still doesn't retrieve anything. We're just going to have to wait this one out and use Google Calendar on the browser in the meantime.

I migrated to iCloud Calendars years ago because sync issues like this had become all too common between Google and Apple. iCloud works brilliantly and I rarely if ever have had any issues with it. Sadly, I still have to sync a few Google calendars that others have shared with me.
