Macbook Pro M1 cannot detect external display using HDMI to USB-C connector.

I just got my MacBook Pro M1 (8GB/512GB) today and when I tried connecting the external monitor, it does not detect it. I am using an HDMI to USB-C connector and it works in my macbook pro 2019 but not the M1. I already tried the restarting and other guides that I got from the internet bug none has fixed my problem.

I am having the same connection problem. The second display initially worked. I attempted to add a different monitor and it did not work with the new monitor and would no longer work with the initial monitor. The display profile lists "SD 170M-A" as a display and I can not delete it. I did not notice this profile before. Also the arrangement option does not show up in the display.

I have the Sceptre E22 and the Sceptre E20 as monitors. They both worked but now only the HDMI connection works. The HDMI to USB-C does not work with the M1 MacMine. The cable and display works with my wife's Mac Air but not with my M1 Mac mini. Please help!

Hey tinneyy,

Sounds like you're having issues connecting your M1 MacBook Pro to an external display. We'd be happy to help.

"If you're using a Mac with Apple silicon, you can connect a single external display to your Mac using one of the Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports. Docks don't increase the number of displays you can connect as an extended desktop. On Mac mini (M1, 2020), you can connect a second display to the HDMI port."

This information and more on using an external display with your M1 MacBook Pro are available here: Use external monitors with your Mac
