I have been purchasing my Apple Music subscription with gift cards. In the past when I redeemed this gift card it was automatically applied to my Apple Music membership for the following three months. Now the gift card balance is just applied to my Apple ID and Apple Music deducts it from there. Is Apple no longer doing this with Apple Music subscriptions purchased with gift cards?

Only gift cards specific to Apple Music could be used in that way. Apple no longer sells those and may have taken down the customizations for them on their servers.

That ones that I have received weren’t Apple Music specific but were virtual in nature and sent through email. The email link would usually go back to the Music app and load up my Apple Music for three months. However, a change in their servers would make sense.
