At the moment of renewing my Apple Music subscription, will Apple charge my gift-card credit before they charge the credit cards on my account?

Apple Music with gift cards I have been purchasing my Apple Music subscription with gift cards. In the past when I redeemed this gift card it was automatically applied to my Apple Music membership for the following three months. Now the gift card balance is just applied to my Apple ID and Apple Music deducts it from there. Is Apple no longer doing this with Apple Music subscriptions purchased with gift cards?
