Loud noise with Bluetooth connection

I am getting unbearably loud noise/pops/static and almost a "musical gibberish" sound when connected to bluetooth speaker from brand new M1 Mini. Like loud enough that i'm worried it will damage my speakers. Happens between Spotify songs, on YouTube videos when scrubbing, etc. Bluetooth speaker output is UNUSABLE because of this. Anybody else have this happening?

Mac mini, macOS 11.2

Slobberingdog10977,

Thanks for those additional details.

Since the issue doesn't occur with the Music app, let's try to isolate it further. If you access Spotify and YouTube with a different browser, do you experience the same issue there?

If so, this indicates an issue with the websites themselves, and you'll want to reach out to the website developer for further assistance.

If not, try playing audio from other websites, such as the Apple website: Apple Events

Thanks!

Slobberingdog10977,

We appreciate you keeping us updated with that information.

Next, try starting your Mac in safe mode to see if you experience the same issue there: How to use safe mode on your Mac

Also, to determine if the issue is user-specific or system-wide, create a new admin user account, and test the Bluetooth sound there: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Regards.

Thank you for the suggestions. Yes, I get the same loud noise when streaming from Apple Events content if I move the timeline fwd or back. Not the strange garbled noise, but the loud static is there. I'm using Spotify app mostly when I get the noise, but I tried the web player and also get the static. Switched from Chrome to Safari and still get the noise when streaming YouTube and using Spotify web player. I also tried a cheap pair of bluetooth earbuds to see if it was my Bluetooth stereo receiver was the problem, but I also get the noise on them. So it still seems as if the Bluetooth connection from the Mini is the common denominator with every case (?).

Hey there Slobberingdog10977,

We understand you're experiencing an issue with sound via a Bluetooth speaker on your Mac mini, and we'd like to see if we can assist.

You mentioned this occurs with Spotify and YouTube. Do you experience this with the built-in Music app on your Mac, as well?

Also, give the steps here a try: If the sound from your wireless headphones cuts out or is distorted

Cheers!

Thank you for the reply. I do not see the issue between songs or when scrubbing when using the Music app. Also, I tried the steps in the instructions you referenced, but still have this issue when streaming to Bluetooth receiver. There are no devices creating interference in this area, and the Bluetooth receiver (Sony STR-DH190) is located within five feet of the Mini.

Is this a codec issue maybe?
