Desktop background pictures folder is locked
First, I am unable to add image files to the "HD / System / Library / Desktop Pictures" folder -- the default folder for Desktop Picture selection. This is a permissions problem that I've been unable to resolve. That folder has the default Big Sur images, which are nice, but I'd like to add additional HD images that I discover.
Second, I created a "Desktop Pictures" folder inside the "Users / xxxxuser / Library" folder. However, I find that every time I reboot my iMac Pro, I must re-select this alternate Pictures folder because the OS reverts to the other one (mentioned in "First").
Third, I created an album in the Photos app and named it "Album-Desktop Pictures" -- however, this has the same problem as in "Second" in that when I startup each morning, the Desktop Background Picture selection defaults to the original "system" location referenced in "First" above.
It would not matter to me if I could put my images in that "system" Desktop Pictures folder, but the folder will not allow me to add anything... and it will not allow me to change the permissions... I thought this iMac Pro (for which I paid $$$$$) was "mine" but I find I was mistaken in that belief, as Apple has locked me out of my own System folders...
It would not matter to me if I could choose an alternate location and the darned OS would remember it until the next time I change it (not every reboot).
