Boot to different disk from Restart

I have a late 2013 iMac 27 with 32 gigs of ram. I have an external SSD drive with OS Catalina on it. This is my bootable disk. When booting from startup the mac will go to this disk and run Catalina.

I have OS El Capitan on the internal HD and when restarting the computer, it will go to the internal HD and run EC. What can I do to fix this problem? I don’t want to lose either programs and want to maintain a dual boot computer. On EC disk, I have PS CS5 and on the Cat. Disk, I have Logic Pro on it. Thanks for any help!

iMac 27″, OS X 10.11

Hi purptiger,

When you startup the computer, press and hold the "option" key to switch boot up disks. Then use the keyboard controls to select the disk.

Cheers,

Jack
