Can I use a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter to update the firmware on my Amazon Fire TV stick?

So my Firestick tv 4K device is stuck at the "Whats New" screen after booting normally. I've tried every reset method I could find on Amazon Help pages, in YouTube, and FB. In chatting with a Amazon tech, he suggested downloading a file link and trying to update the firmware within the Firestick. The Firestick is out of warranty and that was basically the best he could do after walking me thru several reset attempts.

I know that Amazon sells Thunderbolt to HDMI adapters, just wondering if they work both ways... IOW, will the adapter allow data from a downloaded file on my iMac to be transferred and expanded in the Firestick? The file he let me download has a readme.txt file, a platform.tar, a vireos.tar, a Build_kernel.tar.gz file, and an apps folder with a slew of other related files.

Thanks in advance for any/all advice.
