MacBook Air M1: Live FaceTime photos not saving

Hello everyone. How do I find the FaceTime photos that I have taken? It's not in my photo library nor in my desktop. Basically, it's not anywhere. I have been searching the web but none of the provided fixes is working. I'm using a MacBook Air M1 with macOS Big Sur 11.2.1 - same with the other person from the call. Appreciate any help. Thanks!

Hello, rei00.

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you’re taking a Live Photo using FaceTime on your new MacBook Air, and you can’t find the photo. You should be able to see the Live Photo in the Photos app, but note that you do need to open the Photos app at least once to activate it before taking the Live Photo.

It's also important to note that the Pictures folder in Finder and your Photos app are different.

rei00,

You bet! We know these memories are important to capture. If you, and all participants in the call, have “Allow Live Photos to be captured during Video calls” selected, it should be saving your Live Photos in the Photos app on your Mac.

What happens when you try and capture a Live Photo?

- Do you get a notifications that you took a Live Photo?

- Does the other party get a notification that you took a Live Photo of them?

You’ll also want to make sure that everyone involved meets the FaceTime Live Photo requirements with the device they’re using:
