Unable to `factory reset' Mac OS X (10.6.8) snow leopard

Hello all

I am using a MacBook running OS X 10.6.8 and am trying to wipe the disk clean and start over.

I know that enter Recovery Mode by pressing Cmd+R on startup it does not work as it was added to Lion (10.7) and later versions of OS X.

Have tried several times to restarting with the grey DVD inserted while pressing "C" however it does nothing.

Any suggestions on how to factory reset this survival computer?

Many thanks,

Camila

Going back to your original post, you want to "wipe the disk" clean, right? So, it is already running 10.6.3 (Snow Leopard) and you just want to reinstall it again or do you want to update to a newer OS? Do you have a good backup to restore you data from (Time Machine or clone)? Do you even want to restore data or just do a clean install (fresh start)? Have you attempted to erase the HD in Disk Utility AFTER A THOROUGH BACKUP?

Just trying to back up a bit and get an overview of your intentions with this machine; maybe that will help us know how to proceed. We'll get it!

A far as the "filesystem verification failed" screenshot, see this thread: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/29186/how-to-resolve-error-couldnt-modify-partition-map-because-file-system-verific

The solutions given involve Terminal commands; not sure how comfortable you are with that! Worth a try maybe?

Let me know if this helps. Sorry this is so complicated.

Sorry for the confusion. My MBP is 2011 early, 15inch. Unfortunately I don't have the snow leopard 10.6.8 install DVD disk :(

Currently I can not start my MBP normally: when I press "power" botton, it starts with the apple logo but it can not finish the starting process, then it shut down. I was told that I need snow leopard 10.6.8 install disk in order to make it work.

I can find the 10.5.2 OS install disk, will that work for my MBP?

I found this conversation and I know you are expert, so I posted my Qs here

Thank you

Early 2011 will only work with the prebundled 10.6.4-5 installer disc that came with it, and not the retail disc or one that came with another Mac. You may be able to clone over target mode from another Mac, but that's really the only hope for that model you have of getting10.7 or later on there if internet recovery firmware was not installed.
