USB-C Ethernet adaptor says unplugged on reboot
Frustrating issue with no resolution (for many) it seems (BigSur 11.2.1)
Problem: Thunderbolt (USB-C) to Ethernet adaptor says unplugged after boot.
Solution (annoyingly): Unplug the adaptor after boot, wait 10 seconds, re-insert and the ethernet will likely connect and be fine until the next boot.
Notes: The USB LAN adaptor always shows up under system report as being present even after reboot (and even when in Network settings says it is unplugged).
I have tried maybe 5-6 different types of USB-C LAN adaptors, including the Apple supplied Belkin adaptor, Satechi, Thinkpad powered USB hub, Pluggable USB-C and a few others - all exhibit the same behaviour.
On the Pluggable adaptor (latest one I tried as some suggested this RealTek adaptor worked best) even the ethernet lights are flashing...but ti still says unplugged.
Apple: This has been an issue for a LONG time now for many, with many varied "solutions" of which none seems to work. The system knows the adaptor is there, but for some reason, it just cannot connect on reboot without a hard removal.
Interestingly enough, my current Pluggable adaptor also has 3 USB-2 sockets, and I have a couple of hard disks and a headset plugged into these - and these ALWAYS work after a boot.
Please Apple - look into this issue, as it seems to be widespread, and is very annoying and goes totally against the "Just Works" mantra!
