Keyboard “return” button
I was wondering why does the keyboard button “return” have a completely opposite function (goes to the next row) lol 😂?

it just needs to say “next row” or something like that
I don't know of any computers, tablets, or phones with keys labeled that way, although Windows uses "Enter" instead of Apple's "Return." For some more info on the subject, check out this page.
Well do you know how the mechanics of a typewriter work?
so, when you push that little handle to the right - the first thing that it does is “click” a few grooves (that makes it go to another row). Then you physically push the handle to get to the beginning of the row. 😉
so the right term, I guess would actually be “click” IMHO 😁
Do you have a legitimate technical question for this community?
This is not a social media site. We're not here to have long philosophical discussions on the philosophy of how a typewriter should work in some alternate reality.
I'm not sure what you think I need to understand? I'm likely much older than you might think. I haven't used a typewriter in decades. I'm perfectly capable of understanding the return button takes me to a new line. Not sure what more I need to understand?
Ok, first off - I’m not afraid to reveal my age (unlike you). I’m 37. How about you?
The click mechanism takes you to a new line, the handle itself takes you to the beginning of the row.
do you understand the difference?

When you use the handle to "return" the carriage, going to a new line is automatically included. Isn't this the same behavior as the "return" key, at least when composing text?
Not that my age is any of your business, but I'm 66. And what you're describing is EXACTLY what the carriage return on an old timey mechanical typewriter does.
So, what exactly is your point and why are we discussing this to begin with? Your assertion the keyboard on iPhone/iPad should say "Next Row" as opposed to Return, serves no (in my opinion) useful purpose. Return takes you to the next row. One word simplicity.
Feel free to suggest this to Apple via
I kind of like the term "return" myself, since it mostly does the same thing as the carriage return on my typewriter
I have to say in my opinion “click” is simpler and easier to understand than “return” because I’m not returning anywhere by clicking it but actually the opposite- going forward.
Exactly what function do you want it to have?
Well the functionality is ok, it just needs to say “next row” or something like that lol 😁
Well.. what about older people who don’t really know what the keyboard “enter” does? Should we shoot them? 😂 jk..
I just think it has to be clear, like I’m talking to a kid.. 🙂
😂😂
look, don’t get ******.. it’s okay if you don’t know how the typewriter works. 😉 and it is not an alternate reality, I assure you - the typewriter works exactly as I said it does. ❤️
I want the 4 minutes of my life back I wasted on this benign topic.
Some day you’ll understand! 🙂❤️
