CarPlay: People say I sound like I’m far away but I can hear them clearly.

Solution: Settings - search CALL AUDIO ROUTING

Change from Automatic to Bluetooth Headset

CarPlay/iPhone as a tough time selecting the right option: sometimes car speaker (Bluetooth) and sometime iPhone speaker (when you sound like you’re far away)

It’s a 2020 F350 with Sync 3 V3.4

Several people with same problem across many forums with this vehicle across many years.

Sometimes people say that is doesn’t even sound like I’m driving = very good quality using the correct car microphone

Most times people say that it sounds like I’m very far away (from the phone) because it is using the phone speaker and the phone is 3 feet away from me + road noise

Another aspect I’ve heard of is the OEM cable that iPhone 11 Pro Max comes with is designed for rapid charging which directly conflicts with CarPlay. They switch to aftermarket cable and problem goes away

Would like to hear you comments, just want to help out my fellow F350 owners who still don’t have a solution

Thanks : )

Actually most vehicles switch from Bluetooth connection for the iPhone to the wired connection for CarPlay and will automatically disconnect Bluetooth, but it should still switch to the vehicle's microphone. If that does not happen, it is very possible there is a problem with the vehicle's software, but if this works for you, then whatever works for your vehicle. But depending on the year of your vehicle, your radio system may need a software update too. Check with your manufacturer.

Well, I don't have an F350. My wife's car is the only one we have with CarPlay, it is a 2017 Hyundai Elantra. If I use the car, it will automatically connect to Bluetooth when I start the car. However, if I connect the cable for CarPlay, it will disconnect Bluetooth and use the cable. I have an iPhone 12 Pro, however the car does not have the USB-C connector, so it is an older OEM USB cable. Glad you were able to get your issue resolved.
