The Brother DCP-1623WE is not mentioned in About AirPrint - Apple Support (Published Date: January 05, 2021).

Brother writes: "We recommend using AirPrint. If your machine does not support AirPrint, download Brother iPrint&Scan from the App Store."

So, since the printer does not appear to be an AirPrint model, you may want to try the iPrint&Scan app.

Do check that you have the latest firmware.

If you want to print from your computer, and if nothing else works, you could perhaps carry out experiments with macOS Catalina 10.15 drivers from the same downloads page. There have been some reports about other models using the macOS Catalina 10.15 driver 1.5.0 even under Big Sur. Since this would be purely experimental, it may or may not work with your printer. Software conflicts cannot be ruled out. You may have to erase and reinstall everything on the computer. Data may be lost. A hardware problem is unlikely, but it is impossible to guarantee anything. Do not proceed unless you know exactly what you are doing. Make sure that you have multiple backup copies of important files.

Yes, but I can't imagine they would add AirPrint support to a printer that doesn't have it.

They could probably do so with some sort of firmware update, but I don't think they will.

Apple can't do anything about it. Brother would have to make it AirPrint compatible.
