Contact Brother:
If you are so persistent on using the Brother app, then contact Brother. finding out what they and fellow users have to say.
How to Get Support:
OK, let’s try again. FORGET THAT YOU HAVE A BROTHER APP. DON’T USE IT. MAYBE EVEN DELETE IT. Open the Mail app. Open any email. Tap on the curved arrow at the bottom of the screen. Scroll down and you will see Print. Tap on Print. Does your printer appear at the top? If you then choose to print, does it? If it does, your printer is working.
Then try with Photos. Tap on a photo. Tap on Share (that’s the box with the up arrow). Tap Print. Does that work?

Excellent! Thank you for providing that. It will help many for certain.
That’s an AirPrint supported printer. You should need any special app to print to it. See→About AirPrint - Apple Support
Is it a Brother printer?
It’s a Brother MFC L2710DW printer.
The problem remains. When I attempt to print using Brother print/scan app, it can’t find my printer. Both the phone and printer are on the same WiFi channel. I’ll try reinstalling the app.
Can you print from another app, such as email or photos?
I can print docs on my computer. The app doesn’t recognize the printer.
The printer works for email, other apps. I presume that the Brother app is the problem.
I deleted the app then I reinstalled the app. I then registered the printer at the Brother website. My printer was recognized at that point.
