iPhone 11 alerts get randomly loud

Ever since I upgraded to the iPhone 11, my alerts get randomly loud for no reason. I have sound adjustment turned off of the side buttons, so no reason for them to all of a sudden get super loud and then go quiet again randomly. Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking hardware issue but don't want to go to Apple right now to have it checked out. Doesn't happen all the time, but scares the crap out of me when it does.

I have this same issue. It's very frustrating. The high volume is incredibly loud and can be ear piercing when my phone is next to me.

Right now, I was playing music through AirPlay and texting. All of a sudden, the text notifications were at the highest volume. The music volume didn't change. I used the buttons on the side to raise/lower the volume, and they only impact the music volume. I go to Settings and the ringer and alerts volume is set to super low, and I slide it hi to low, and the texts are still super loud. Toggling the "change with button"s doesn't help either.

I just quit the Messages app and reopened it, and now it seems to be set to the low volume.

Anyway, it's frustrating the the response from Apple on another thread about this issue just linked to the "how to control the sound on your iPhone." This seems to be some glitch, not just users not knowing how to change their ringtone volume....

Thanks for replying so fast, but I've already tried that a few times. I truly appreciate the suggestion though.

Let me try to add more detail to my original question and explain it this way: when I lock the phone, sometimes (randomly) the lock sound will be incredibly loud. If I unlock the phone immediately after that happens and relock it, the lock sound is back at normal volume. I have been on the home screen (not locking it while another app is open) and not having touched the side volume buttons, and it still happens. Every feasible combination of circumstances you could imagine, and it will still happen randomly. There is fundamentally no reason the sounds should change like that. I've tried all the help tips from the Apple site, and those from IT co-workers that work with Apple devices, and from online searches that I've stumbled across. Nothing works. I'm kind of at a loss as to what could be causing it other than perhaps an actual problem with the device. I've never had a faulty Apple device before so that's why I keep searching for another answer (any why I keep buying Apple products)... I don't have any other issues with the phone, and it's only mildly annoying, but it has happened from almost the first day I received the iPhone... I've even wiped and restored it a few times thinking maybe that would help to return it to factory settings, removed profiles and apps... Nope. Guess I should have gone into the store to have it inspected while it was still under warranty, but that was at the beginning of this virus mess. Oh well, lesson learned. If anyone else has any other suggestions, I'm happy to try them if I haven't already. Otherwise I'll just deal with "volume shock". Ha ha ha Thanks everyone, and stay well and safe.
