Why does the most powerful GPU 16" MacBook Pro have such outdated drivers for Windows?

I mean seriously? Not to mention the fact that "other manufacturers" 5600M laptops already got a 21.2.2 release on 02/11/2021.

Bootcamp is a tool to facilitate the installation of Windows. The W10 ISO comes from Microsoft. The drivers come from either Apple or specific vendors who provide it.

Here is the Bootcamp drivers package for a MacbookPro 16,4

<ProductVersion>6.1.8034</ProductVersion>
<ProductCode>{FCFFE6B6-BAE8-490E-88D0-097A9DA1C43D}</ProductCode>

For Apple's own hardware, you can get updates using steps described in How to use Apple Software Update for Windows - Apple Support. This may also contain updates, if they are provided to Apple by the original the vendor.

How can you release updated drivers for all BUT your HIGHEST tier GPUs? That's silly.

The BC drivers package is typically never updated, after it's original release, unless there are significant failures. You may want to check Apple Software Update and/or Windows Update, for any pending updates and check if you get official and updated versions. Normally, the PID/VID of the hardware device is used for Windows Update. If you choose this path, create a System Restore Point, before you wade into either Update engine. I have seen cases where Windows Update leads to new issues, whereas the BC drivers are usually more stable. Also, if you get a bad update, reinstalling the BC version should be preceded by a DDU cleanup.

AMD will also release updates, so it may be worth asking AMD Support if they plan to release updated versions for Bootcamp.

That is correct. Due to pass-the-buck nature of the driver issues, bootcampdrivers.com is someone's initiative to address such issues. It is an experimental setup, commercially unsupported.

As much as I appreciate you helping to point fingers at who to blame, or find some back door work around this issue... The issue still stands. I purchased this product from Apple, and I expect better support from Apple for this $600 GPU upgrade. Whether they need to squeeze the drivers out of AMD or whatever it is, not my problem, but let’s see some results for this premium price that they charged us.

There is a fine line between macOS on Macs and Windows on Macs, and corresponding driver responsibilities. You bought a Mac running macOS from Apple, not Windows running on a Mac from Apple. Bootcamp is supported, but as a cooperative effort. Apple has stated in their link, who is responsible for Windows specifically. I personally prefer the Nvidia/Apple partnership over the AMD/Apple partnership. Another example is eGPU support on Apple Macs, when running Windows.

For example, I run CentOS and RHEL on Intel Macs, and I do not expect Apple to provide any drivers directly for these OSes. These are provided by the corresponding Dev teams. If these do not work, I use corresponding community forums to point out such issues.

I want to know if there’s a legitimate answer from someone who has relevant information on the status of these drivers

Not here there isn't. This forum is Users talking to other Users. No one with first hand knowledge of the situation posts here. All you get are folks with the same standing as yourself.

or maybe have someone at Apple notice the fact that THE most premium GPU has not had updated drivers.

That would be one for the Feedback mechanism as Apple promise to read those, but make no promise to read anything here..

From Update AMD graphics drivers for Windows in Boot Camp - Apple Support,

If you use Boot Camp to run Windows on your Mac, you can visit the AMD website to download the latest version of their drivers for Windows. These Mac computers use AMD graphics:

  • 15-inch MacBook Pro introduced in 2015 or later
  • 27-inch iMac introduced in 2014 or later
  • 21.5-inch iMac with Retina display introduced in 2017 or later
  • iMac Pro introduced in 2017
  • Mac Pro introduced in 2013 or later

This makes AMD the primary responsible vendor on all models as noted.

Per Microsoft, https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=AMD%205600m, you can check these out.

Also, take a look at bootcampdrivers.com.

Do you guys come to these forums to just troll and air your spew of nonsense? If you can’t anyhow contribute then why post at all?

I paid Apple for Apple hardware that clearly advertises Bootcamp support, and clearly other MacBooks with lower end GPUs have newer drivers. I want to know if there’s a legitimate answer from someone who has relevant information on the status of these drivers or maybe have someone at Apple notice the fact that THE most premium GPU has not had updated drivers.

When you buy a *insert your favorite brand of car here* and the Pioneer or Kenwood stereo breaks... do you take the car to Pioneer and Kenwood or back to the dealership to have them address the issue and possibly investigate what might’ve happened? What about if my Intel processor stops functioning, should I also scratch Apple and contact Intel directly? It’s pretty disappointing that we’re even having this conversation, instead of sticking to my original concern that I want addressed by Apple and not a bunch of trolls who just want to point finger and speak just to speak.

I also use Linux distros and do not expect Apple to provide any support by them. But, bootcamp is specifically an Apple feature and BootCamp Drivers is an Apple package. Whether AMD or Apple are responsible, Apple needs to do their due diligence and address this issue.
