Why my MacBook won't let me install MacOS Big Sur with MacintoshHD

Big Sur requires a minimum of 35.5 GB of empty space (or it could be up to 45 GB if you are running an older OS. Plus, since you should always maintain an absolute minimum of 10 - 15 GB of free space in order for the OS to function properly, you may need to either delete or move a bunch of space hogging files such as movies, videos, photos, etc. to an external hard drive.
