I know. It just is weird to me that document is new. For years Apple has been able to remove activation lock and erase and reset devices for those with proof of original ownership or proof of legal ownership from someone else. But they’ve also, for some time now, apparently been unable to reset devices of (legal) owners of devices who deleted their AppleID and yet forgot to sign it out before the deletion was completed.
With whatever Apple does on their side to reset a device and remove activation lock on proof of ownership is unknown to me. But based on posts here, it also seems clear that when people who’ve deleted their AppleID and forgot to sign it out beforehand have no recourse, the mechanism seems different. I suspect it has to do with the fact they must retain legal stewardship of some purchase records of a deleted AppleID. Basically deleting an AppleID dose not delete everything - Apple is required to retain some specific information tied to that AppleID.
But again, I don’t know exactly what Apple does, on their hardware, to disassociate an AppleID from a device. That’s why I hope the OP posts back if they get anywhere with their support request.
I just remain skeptical that an AppleID that has been deleted, without signing out of any device beforehand, can be fixed, by any means. It seems not the same situation as when someone with proof of legal ownership asks for a reset from an AppleID still live in Apple’s system.
Again, great if I am wrong. I just would love confirmation of that going forward. So I hope the OP has recourse with Apple Support.
