Recovery of iPad Associated with a Deregistered AppleID

Hi, I deregistered an AppleID before I logged out an old iPad associated with that account. Now I'm not able to login the iPad with neither my current AppleID nor the deregistered one. Is there any solution? Thanks

Hello Dehai,

Do you mean you requested deletion of the Apple ID?

How to delete your Apple ID account - Apple Support

"Make sure that you sign out of all your devices to avoid issues with apps that use your Apple ID account or iCloud. After your account is deleted, you can't sign out of iCloud or turn off Find My iPhone Activation Lock on your devices. If you forget to sign out, you might not be able to use your device when your account is deleted."

There is a new service which you may be able to use. Click here --> https://al-support.apple.com/#/additional-support

This is set up so you can remove the ID on a device where you can prove you are the true owner but do not have the Apple ID information.

If you actually deleted that AppleID, try the second link that Limnos provided and see if Apple support can help.

I am very doubtful that link applies to an AppleID that has actually been deleted. It seems pretty clear that with a deleted AppleID on a device where that deleted AppleID was NOT signed out prior to the deletion, there is no solution of any kind to then repair the situation.

Apple has for a long time been able to remove activation lock when the AppleID still exists as an active AppleID in their system (e.g. as they’ve done for families with deceased owners). But there are no reports of anyone being able to disable activation lock with an AppleID that has been deleted.

If I’m wrong, great, so please post back if you get a resolution.

I know. It just is weird to me that document is new. For years Apple has been able to remove activation lock and erase and reset devices for those with proof of original ownership or proof of legal ownership from someone else. But they’ve also, for some time now, apparently been unable to reset devices of (legal) owners of devices who deleted their AppleID and yet forgot to sign it out before the deletion was completed.

With whatever Apple does on their side to reset a device and remove activation lock on proof of ownership is unknown to me. But based on posts here, it also seems clear that when people who’ve deleted their AppleID and forgot to sign it out beforehand have no recourse, the mechanism seems different. I suspect it has to do with the fact they must retain legal stewardship of some purchase records of a deleted AppleID. Basically deleting an AppleID dose not delete everything - Apple is required to retain some specific information tied to that AppleID.

But again, I don’t know exactly what Apple does, on their hardware, to disassociate an AppleID from a device. That’s why I hope the OP posts back if they get anywhere with their support request.

I just remain skeptical that an AppleID that has been deleted, without signing out of any device beforehand, can be fixed, by any means. It seems not the same situation as when someone with proof of legal ownership asks for a reset from an AppleID still live in Apple’s system.

Again, great if I am wrong. I just would love confirmation of that going forward. So I hope the OP has recourse with Apple Support.

I am not sure why there would be any difference. When a device is reset by Apple it is basically set up as new. No Apple ID on it. The link says you need a serial number or IMEI (that's the first time I have ever heard of Apple using that, BTW) to tie the owner to a device. I don't see how having an Apple ID on it that no longer existed would prevent them from saying, "Okay, Joe Bloggs here has his name on this receipt which has a serial number which matches what we see on the phone, so let's erase it and hand it back all ready to set up again."

I have captured three screen for a reference:

Image 1: I launched the Activation Lock support request.

Image 2: I got a link in my email to continue the request.

Image 3: Apple support told me that the session has expire.

Then what I could do was to repeat the steps again, and never found a valid page to continue the request. Before the Screen turned to Image 3, I did found a very fast flash of a page to submit the request. But it automatically turned to "Session Expired" and wouldn't give you the opportunity to really submit the request.

Sorry, I have been seeing others report various problems with that feature. I can only advise you to call Apple Support again and have them work you through the process. :-( As you have probably realized, the people posting here do not work for Apple, we're just unofficial volunteers, users like you, trying to help others. What we can do is very limited and nothing beyond what people posting questions can do (and sometimes less if we don't have an actual problem to run through the system).

I tried the other link. It actually didn't work. I followed the instruction, filled in the Serial Number, got a link in my email to continue my Activation Lock support request, then ended in a message saying:

Session Expired

Your session has expired. Please start another request to resume your session.

I tried many times, with the same notice.

Thanks anyway. I'm just wondering if there's other potential solution, or else I can do nothing but give up.

Thanks for the response. I tried Limnos suggestion, but have not succeeded yet.

Could you please explain "not succeeded"? That site has only been up for about 4 days and most of the discussions I have seen about it have been complaints people can't get their data submitted. Of course people don't post here to just tell us when something does work so I don't know if the issue is general or what to advise you on getting it to work. It could conceivably even having problems since one of Apple's major US centers is subject to major power outages right now.
