Imessage on mac

How do I connect my text messages to my mac?

i’ve tried to go to settings and select forward to mac but I don’t have that option on my phone

iPhone XR, iOS 14

Both need to be signed in with the same Apple ID.. the Mac should be signed into iMessage..
