Hermes Watch - The Band is made for A 10 Year Old?

This is really just a warning/gripe with my Hermes Watch Experience. I have seen some other posts on here but obviously read them too late.

I bought my wife a new watch at Christmas and decided that I would return it and get her an Hermes watch. The one she originally wanted was out of stock since November. She wanted the Hermes Silver Stainless Steel Case with Attelage Double Tour watch 40mm. I spoke to Apple Reps about the watch and why it was out of stock since November and they said to keep checking back. Not one of them said, "hey just so you know, that band only fits a Barbie doll." Finally in February the watch was back online so I ordered it immediately. It took 13 days to ship from China. My wife puts the dual wrap on and can barely connect it to the last hole. My daughter who is 13 and is a size double 00 can barely get it on the last hole.

I have to ask, who is Hermes target audience on their bands? All of their band sizes for a 40mm watch are 130-155mm which is 5.1 to 6.1 inches. According to statistics, that would cover petite to extra small. I found this for average woman's wrist size:

  • 7” Average woman’s wrist
  • 8” Average man’s wrist or woman with large wrist
  • 9” For man with large wrist

So based on this, I have to return the watch. Someone please tell me if I am wrong here but from what I see, the 40mm only has that band size available? This means I can go to a 44mm which looks very big on her wrist.

Why would Apple not work with Hermes and have small, medium and large band options like they do on other watches? This makes me wonder if Hermes has slid back into (or never left?) the thought that all clothes and accessories must be made for a model size 00? Didn't the fashion industry get blasted for this a few years back and it caused major backlash?

Anyway. If anyone from Apple has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Just a follow up here. I spoke to Apple and I will return the watch tonight. They suggested that I could go to a 3rd party and get a new band. That sounds great in theory except when you realize that the price for the same standalone band is $489 on Apple. It makes no sense to pay that much for a watch and just get the watch face. I could upgrade to the 44mm watch but my watch just looks too big on her wrist. I will say that my German Shepherd looked very stylish with it on his paw. It did fit him :).

So let's review what we have learned here.

  1. The 40mm Hermes bands all have a maximum length of 6.1 inches. If you look at a tape measure, this is about the size of a fifty cent piece.
  2. If you are between the ages of 5-11, this watch is for you!

Hey Deggie. No. The reason is simple though. If you buy a new BMW and the tires on it are from Walmart and the leather seats are from Bill's Cow Emporium, you go to the Dealership and say what the ****. You do not call Wallwart or ask for Bill at Bill's Cow Emporium. BMW is selling the product and even they do not manufacturer 100% of every product in and or on the vehicle, it is their responsibility to make sure they are delivering quality to the consumer. Apple is in the same boat. This is their product and it is what they are selling to the market. Jobs was relentless in his pursuit for continuous improvement. If he were alive, I doubt this would have made it to market. Then again, it seems like they are not selling many of these so maybe they just do not care?

Think about when the Apple laptops had batteries that were expanding. Apple did not tell everyone, hey we just use those batteries and do not make them so not our issue. Apple stepped up and fixed the issue for everyone. This build consumer confidence.

When I spoke to Apple on the phone, the guy searched their help logs and the first issue that appeared was that the bands were too small. They know about the issue. I am just surprised no one is saying hey, based on the price of these, we really need to offer sizes.

I think your logic is flawed. If Apple said, hey guys we like your designs but we are having returns because the band is too small. We want small, medium and large bands and you can charge different prices for each. As a corporation, you never give someone control over a product you sell. If Hermes says, No, Apple can easily say ok get Louie Vuitton on the phone. Apple holds the power, not Hermes. Why do you think Apple kicked Nissan to the curb last week? My guess is Nissan was trying to suggest items that Apple did not agree with and pulled a power play. Apple will probably just build their own manufacturing plant or buy out a startup electric car company and go from there. They however are not going to let anyone tell them how to run their business.

I get what you are saying but if Apple is taking direction from Hermes, I would be blown away.
