Unresponsive black screen when I use continuity markup.

When I click on the "Annotate on iOS" button on my Macbook Pro, my iPad responds with a unresponsive black screen, a grey bar at top with "Done". Nothing shows up on the iPad screen nor the document on my computer. Clicking "Done" on the iPad will exit out of the continuity markup, which tells me that the connection is made at the very least.

Hey Jdspugh,

Rebooting my Macbook Pro is what worked for me. I had the same issue for several days and rebooted my iPad multiple times with no results, then I rebooted my MacBook and it worked without issue. Rebooting my MacBook should have occurred to me sooner, I'm in IT, and this generally step 1 of about any technical issue for any device. Good luck.

Hello jdspugh,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities and seeking help with your iPad. It sounds like the app you are using is not responding correctly.

1. Please start with the troubleshooting in this help article: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support

2. If your entire device is freezing, please use the steps in this article: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen - Apple Support

3. If you still have issues, it may be beneficial to reinstall iOS using your computer. Before reinstalling you should make a backup of your data before the next steps. You can make a backup in iCloud or your computer using this article: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

4. After your data is backed up, you can reinstall iOS using your computer. The reason we need to use your computer for this step is to get a new copy of iOS installed to your device. Use this article to reinstall the iOS: If you can‘t update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Please pay close attention when you reach step 4. Once iOS is reinstalled, test if the issue is still occurring. Thanks again and have a great rest of your day.

Hey JD,

I'm sorry that didn't work for you. How frustrating! The black screen with the "Done" button was exactly what I was getting. I'm very interested to hear what finally fixes your issue. It's probably a nitch group that uses this feature, but it sure is handy. Just for others, I'm running OSX 11.2.1 and iOS 14.4.

Keep us posted JD!
