deleted apple-id still linked to device

Hi everybody!

Just wondering whether anyone can help me out. A couple of months ago, sadly may dad passed away. He was using an iPhone 8 which is simlock free. Since my iPhone 8 is almost ready to be replaced (frequent low battery) I decided to use his simlock free iPhone.

However, just after his death I deleted his Apple ID. When trying to delete his iPhone it is stated that the Apple ID (my dad's previous one) is not available anymore. End result is I can't use his iPhone.

Does anyone can help me out?

Make sure that you sign out of all your devices to avoid issues with apps that use your Apple ID account or iCloud. After your account is deleted, you can't sign out of iCloud or turn off Find My iPhone Activation Lock on your devices. If you forget to sign out, you might not be able to use your device when your account is deleted.
