Won’t allow me to change my screen time passcode

I purchased a new iPad and am in the process of shutting the old one down. It would Iike me to shut off my screen time and I ca’t recall the passcode. I have changed it and it still says it’s wrong. I have now had many failed attempts so each time I try it locks me out longer. Any ideas on how I can get past this?
