Storage space on iPhone X vs iPad Pro gen 4 and iTunes

I have a 64 gb iPhone X and I’m a music lover but it seems I have almost used all 64 gigs on my phone which I find extremely hard to believe. Does anyone have a solution other than downloading outside apps to correct the craziness with the amount of storage used? 64 gigs is a lot of space even for today’s standards...please help
