Table of contents in Layout

When will Apple get the table of contents to work with Page Layout as well as Word Processing?

Possibly never.


The TOC generator uses text in the document body formatted to one or more of the Header styles.


Page Layout documents do not have a document body. All text in a Page Layout document is in some sort of container—a text box, a shape, a chart, etc.


With no document body, there is no text available to form the TOC.


You can construct (and maintain) a TOC manually in a Page Layout document, but the document type is better suited to document generally too small to require a TOC, as evidenced by the supplied templates that generate this form of document.
