Caches, preferences and other "junk" folders
Two days ago I decided to do a little cleaning though my Mac (MacBook Air 2019). I usually clean my caches once in two months (I found it helps the computer run faster). I use Clean my Mac X (the free version) to help me identify the files and folders I do not need and then I clean them manually or the "hard way" as they call it. I found one of their blog posts (https://macpaw.com/how-to/clear-cache-on-mac) in which they explained how to clean your computer properly. When it came to cleaning the caches they mentioned the preferences file and I understood from there that you can delete that one as well. Now I admit that I might have made a mistake by doing that and all I want to know now is how can I fix this problem, because since then my Mac is acting weird when I open it. The background photo changes and the screen brightness is changed as well (+ the keyboard lights are always on, then they go off after log in). Not to mention that logging in into my computer takes longer now.
Another problem I noticed is that my One Drive folder isn't synchronising any more and the app is not working properly (I need to force shut it every time I try to open it) so I am guessing I deleted some preferences for that app as well.
My question is... What did I do and what should I do next? The problems aren't big, but they are bugging me and I'm afraid I might have to reset something.
I tried to explain everything as well as I can, because I'm pretty sure I did something that needs fixing.
Thank you!
