iMovie editing

When I split a video clip and try to adjust the length of one of the newly separated clips, it’s impossible to do without dragging the other clip along. They won’t move individually. Also if I try to change location of the clip it snaps back to its spot.

This has never happened before. Something must be in play that I’m not aware of. Last few projects I did were so easy to split a clip, adjust the length and slide another clip in between seamlessly. Very frustrating

Thanks

Actually, in my memory at least, it has always happened that way before with iMovie 10. You cannot separate clips in the main timeline and have a space remain between them. They will snap together as if magnetized. If want them separated you would need to insert a spacer between them, such as a background clip. Also, you can still easily slide a clip in between contiguous segments by just dragging the clip in. It will push aside the right hand clip and fit between them.

You can, however, place the clips in the upper timeline above another clip or a black background and then split and slide the segments where you want, with space between them. They won't snap together.
