Hi Mark Terry,
The Update volume is now an expected volume in your startup container as of macOS Big Sur. However, it shouldn't be showing on your desktop.
Please complete these steps to describe the volumes in your startup container. This helps me determine whether the Update volume is legitimate or not.
Thanks - in the right area definitely.
My volume isn't hidden and it was visible on my new Air , not after an installation by me.
If I eject it, it comes back on re-boot.
Hi Mark Terry,
The Update volume appears to be legitimate. macOS is acting as expected and is hiding the Update volume from the output. I'm not sure why it is appearing on your desktop though.
Does the Update volume always appear on your desktop? Or does it only appear at certain times?
Hi,
I've had a chat with Apple support and they say it is OK.
He convinced me it was OK and said that he had the same on his iMac...
It is always there but I've hidden it from view now.
Maybe it will go away during next update.
I'm happy that it isn't a symptom of anything wrong - but surprised that I haven't heard of anyone else with the issue.
Thanks for your help.
