Apple watch playlist in reverse order

I have a smart playlist that grabs files from a show that I record and add to iTunes. When that playlist is copied to my iPhone 7 it is in the correct order. When it goes to my watch, it reverses the order of the playlist. Can I match the playlist order on my phone or change the order of the playlist on my Apple Watch 6?

All are running the latest ios.

Hello DRSpringer,

Thank you for posting your question in Apple Support Communities.

We understand wanting to listen to your music in a particular order.

Have you checked to see if shuffle is enabled on your watch? If you are unsure, see the section “On your Apple Watch Series 3 or later” found in Repeat and shuffle music.

If you see that shuffle is not turned on or you have more questions, please reach back out.

Take care!

It's not a matter of shuffle, it reverses the order of the playlist when it's copied to the watch. If I select shuffle it will shuffle the playlist but it's a conversational list of files so I need to listen in order. I had the same problem on the iPhone a few years ago with smart playlists reversing, but that was resolved with a software update. I think the same thing is happening with the watch.

The playlist is in the proper order on the iPhone but in reverse order on the watch. If I drag the files into a standard playlist, it gets to the phone and the watch in the proper order. Only the smart playlist reverses the order.

So I can get it to work it with a regular playlist, it just takes an extra step.

Hi DRSpringer,

Got it, this is not for your music playlists, they are fine. But only your Smart Playlists.

While it’s good you have found a workaround, we understand you preferring not to have to use it.

You may want to reach out to Apple Support and speak with a technician about this behavior when syncing to your watch. They can be reached here: Get Support.

Reach back out if you have further questions.

Have a great week!
