iPad sleep/wake

My 7th Generation iPad running iPadOS14.4 will sleep when closing the cover (third party) but will not wake when opening the cover. I’ve been using this case over a year with no issue and it just started a few days ago. I’ve done every troubleshooting step up to, and including the factory reset. Nothing has resolved the issue.

Presumably the cover is non-Apple - from a third party manufacturer?

Whilst possibly counterintuitive, the magnet(s) embedded in the cover may be causing this issue. To be certain, you will need to substitute the cover with another - perhaps of a different brand. Are any other magnets or ferrous materials in proximity to your iPad or its case? These may be interfering will sensing of the embedded closure magnet.

An alternative explanation concerns the iPad sensor that detects the closure magnet. The hall-effect sensor is calibrated during manufacture. If the calibration has been lost, or the sensor has become faulty, this may account for the behaviour that you observe.

Per the last paragraph of my earlier reply, the hall-effect sensor may be faulty or has lost calibration.

In either case, should you wish to use the cover switch to wake your iPad, you will require service from your retailer, your local Apple Store, or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP).

If your iPad is within warranty or you have purchased AppleCare+ coverage, you should be able to obtain a replacement iPad at no cost.
