The button for on/off silent mode, keeps flipping back to silent mode even when I flip it manually.

Since it is a mechanical switch, it could be dirty or broken.
Make an appointment and have your iPhone inspected at an Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider. After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.
