Face ID Keeps Prompting for Passcode

I keep getting the "Your passcode is required to use Face ID" message on my iPhone.

I can understand why this might be needed occasionally but sometimes it'll prompt be several times in a single day.

At best, it seems excessive but is, honestly, a dissatisfier.

I've started keeping a log of frequency and iOS just now prompted me for the fourth time in 3 days.

Super frustrating.

What can be done?

Hi Chazzmon,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We understand you would like to know why you are being prompted for your passcode when Face ID is enabled.

"You must enter your passcode for additional security validation when:

  • The device has just been turned on or restarted.
  • The device hasn’t been unlocked for more than 48 hours.
  • The passcode hasn’t been used to unlock the device in the last six and a half days and Face ID hasn't unlocked the device in the last 4 hours.
  • The device has received a remote lock command.
  • After five unsuccessful attempts to match a face.
  • After initiating power off/Emergency SOS by pressing and holding either volume button and the side button simultaneously for 2 seconds."

You can find additional information here: About Face ID advanced technology

Cheers!
