Macbook as video monitor for iPhone camera won't rotate to landscape.

When I use the 'new movie recording' function of QuickTime player on MacBook to monitor the camera on my iPhone 12 it is stuck in portrait mode. Any other app (that can rotate) when rotated to landscape forces the QuickTime Player to switch to a landscape view, but the camera doesn't. My suspicion is that, because the camera app UI stays in portrait mode and only the zoom function rotates with it, QuickTime doesn't actually recognize it as an app that uses landscape rotation and so it seems to be stuck in portrait. Does anyone know if this is correct and what to do about it?

I've now been researching this for less than 30 minutes and I have come up with no less than 20 questions with the same answer - clearly, people want to use the camera on their wonderfully amazing iPhones to record movies on QuickTime using their macs as monitors and participate in virtual meetings (this is the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic part of history) as we are all doing nowadays.

Alas, the iPhone integration ONLY supports portrait style viewing so we want to tilt our heads to see our framing...

Apple please get your 💩 together - I've now moved over to the entire ecosystem - Apple Watch, MacBook Pro, iPhone 12 pro Max, iPad Pro... you get it - and now I'm really upset that such a simple concept is not supported.

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, Ben!

We understand you're trying to turn your iPhone to landscape while using your MacBook as a monitor, but it will stay in Portrait mode. We'd be happy to provide information about this.

While using the iPhone as a camera for QuickTime, it will always remain in Portrait mode. There is no way to change this as this is a default setting.

Have a great day!
