How to stop double notifications?

I'm trying to make this apple watch work over tattooed skin (both of my forearms are heavily tattooed) and it's just near impossible. To make anything work at all, wrist detection needs to be turned off. If it is on, the watch will lock itself every other second as it doesn't think it is on a wrist (furthermore you do not get any notifications, because it doesn't think it is on a wrist). So I need wrist detection off. With this feature turned off, I get alerts on both my phone and watch (so double notifications) for any event. I want to only get the notifications on my watch (unless I am actively using my phone). If I disable the notifications on my phone, they just stop completely and don't go to the watch either.

There is a slight workaround with text messages only in that I can go to the watch app > notifications > messages > custom notification and turn them on while having them turned off in my phone settings. However this only works with text messages, as there is no email tab for me to click on in notifications like there is for text messages. The only thing on this screen that relates to email is outlook and yahoo mail are turned on in the "mirror iphone alerts" list (so you cannot go into that and set custom alerts, only turn on or off the mirroring).

All I want to be able to do is wear my watch to be able to see the time, date, weather, calendar events and notifications from my phone (and only have them alert my watch, not my phone also at the same time) and this seems next to impossible with having tattooed skin. With such significant functional impact you would think there would be a warning somewhere.
