Apple Mail Preferences Pane just "hangs" after Big Sur Upgrade

Since upgrading to the extremely buggy and disapointing Big Sur OS, one of the issues I have is that I am unable to open the Apple Mail Preferences Pane - I get the ever foreboding beach ball just "spinning" and the App hangs. I have even left it for 24 hours just hanging - and it still didn't open. I need to change the IMAP folders for my main mail account and cannot do so because Apple Mail Preferences will not open, rendering the MacBook Pro (2018) completely useless for mail. I have completely restored my MacBook Pro (2018) and tried deleting the plist for mail preferences - and still the "beach ball of doom". Can anyone suggest a fix for this, because waiting for Apple to resolve the bugs in Big Sur is for "Sur a Big" ask and a long wait?!

Also, since the Big Sur Upgrade battery life is reduced to almost 25% and the fan is on constantly - I'm rather tired of Apple getting things wrong.....

You wrote " Also, since the Big Sur Upgrade battery life is reduced to almost 25% and the fan is on constantly " the reduced battery and fan issue are an indication of high CPU and or Memory usage. That is indicative of some Runaway process and / or Third Party Software / Extension that is playing up and may be part of the Mail Preference beach-balling. Suggest opening the Activity Monitor >> View >> View ALL Processes and checking CPU Usage and or Memory Usage.

During the Clean Install Did you use Migration Assist ? Sometimes, the migration re-introduces a pre-existing unresolved issue back into the Clean Installation. Thereby negation of the clean installation.

Should that not be the case - there is a very good and reputable Application called Etrecheck writer by a very respected Community Member that can be used to view and collect hardware and software information. It can produce a Report for personal viewing or posting to the Forum. It does not collect any personal information and is free to use. It would be a good idea , if going this route, to Give it Full Disk Access via Security& Privacy >> Disk Access and Enable Full Access.

Thank you. I have done that already and have actually completely factory restored the MBP and reinstalled Big Sur, so no 3rd party software installed - just Apple’s standard apps & software associated with a “clean” MacBook. But I still have the mail preferences pane “hanging” and have to force quit the mail app, and still have vastly reduced battery life and the fan on full tilt.
