Change email using IOS mail app

I have a new email. I changed my appleid to the new one. Now I am updating my mail app. I deleted the old email from my phone and added the new email id. It is an outlook exchange email (old email was hotmail). When I bring up mail accounts, it still shows the old email under "Account". When I change that to the new one, it reverts back to the old one. When I send an email, it is still from the old hotmail id. Which is still valid and on my Microsoft account, but I updated the mail app and appleid and I want to eventually get rid of the hotmail id.

I can add the new email id - but technically (as Microsoft sees it) they are the same account, just different aliases. I didn't think adding a 'new email' would be the correct thing to do in this case, which is why I deleted the old and added the new.

How can I get my new email to be the primary email on IOS mail app? I have not updated my ipad yet.

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 14

Hi there donnafromme,

We understand you're trying to set your new email address to be your default account, and we'd like to see if we can assist.

You can head to Settings > Mail > Default Account to ensure your Outlook account is selected.

It sounds like your old email address is an alias of your current account. For additional help with the account alias and selecting which is the default, you may want to reach out to your email service provider.

We hope this helps.

Hi thank you for your reply. My default mail account is set outlook on both my iPad and my iPhone. The new email is an alias. I have changed the primary Alias with my provider to the new one. The old one is still listed but it is no longer the primary. I have also updated my Apple ID which shows the new email. What would I need to check with my provider? I don’t see how I can change the email in iOS, it should update on my iOS mail app.

donnafromme,

We appreciate the update.

In this case, since your iOS device pulls the data from your email provider, they’d be the best hands possible to assist. We’d be unable to remove the email address from Mail, when it’s still associated to your account.

In order to complete that process, Microsoft would need to assist you further.

Have a great day!
