burning a playlist to cd

I have been trying for days to burn a playlist to a cd for my father and my computer starts to allow it but when it gets down to the last three songs the cd seems to skip and jerk in the computer and then afterwards when the burn seems to be complete it states that it could not properly burn at this time. I take the disc and place it into a radio and every song but the last few will not play. I'm trying to figure out what it goin wrong with the burner and if I need to just get a new disc burning program or what. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
