screen locks after sleep

After recent update Catalina 10.15.7, when my iMac wakes from Sleep the screen is locked. Also all previously open apps are closed.

Thanks very much. “Require password… after sleep or screen saver begins” was not enabled, but “Log out after... minutes of inactivity" was. That latter setting is completely hidden, unless you know enough to unlock the lock symbol and then click on ADVANCED. I don't know how it got set, whether a security tech person recently set it without telling me, or whether it is a feature of the latest Apple update to Catalina. Either way, the failure to inform me cost a lot of time and effort.

Hey there dorothywm,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. We'd be happy to take a closer look into this with you. So we understand the issue fully, after waking your iMac from sleep the device displays the user login screen, and previously opened apps are closed after logging in, is that correct?

If so, let's check and see if you have “Require password… after sleep or screen saver begins.” enabled in the Security & Privacy settings with the steps shown here: Require a password after waking your Mac - Apple Support

If this setting is not enabled, check out this additional resource to ensure that “Log out after... minutes of inactivity.” is not enabled as well: Set your Mac to log out when not in use - Apple Support

Let us know if that helps.

Have a great day!
