Apple's terms of purchase for most countries are effectively, "All Transactions are final" (check terms at: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/us/terms.html ). Apple may refund on a case by case basis, but realize they can also say no.

Apple will have the answer upfront. So, call them, seeing what your options are, when it comes to getting this back, including "how". Apple Support will know what is going on, and will run you through the fix.
