Network SSID Connection Conflict

Why is it that my iPhone 11 ProMax (not relevant but.......), unable to join a network that has a Hyphen and/or and Underscore character in the SSID Name?

I recently purchased a new Netgear Router Feb 21, 2021 which used a Hyphen in the 5G SSID. I removed the Hyphen due to an answer I found on this forum about doing so with a similar question, and it worked. I can now connect to my router's 5G network after removing the Hyphen as suggested. I don't believe this is an actual phone issue as much as I believe it is a Software, Firmware, or IOS issue?

Is there a permanent fix for this. Other networks that I am seeing with a Hyphen and/or Underscore, aside from my own, will also not allow connection. I was in one of our local department stores today that has a good network for the public while shopping there, but there is a Hyphen used in the SSID name when it pops up for WiFi, but again, "Unable to connect to the network,...........?" They won't let me change the SSID Name of the Network, I bet???

Hello kcnotark,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that your iPhone is having issues connecting to certain networks, particularly those that include a hyphen in the network name.

We recommend using the guidance from If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t connect to a Wi-Fi network for the affected networks. These steps can help with most network connectivity issues.

Take care.
