Don’t use Apple Pay if you may need to return an item

Thought I would use Apple Pay to protect my credit card info. Big mistake! I am trying to get refund for a product purchased and told by Apple I can only get store credit ! This is an item over $150! Anyone else have this problem?

iPhone 12, iOS 14

yes they can. just show them the Device account number.

Return and get a refund for items you bought with Apple Pay in a store

The cashier can use the Device Account Number to process your return. To find the Device Account Number on your iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down to Wallet & Apple Pay.
  3. Tap the card.

For Apple Watch:

  1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Go to the My Watch tab & tap Wallet & Apple Pay.
  3. Tap your card.

If the cashier needs your card details:

  • On the device that you used to buy the item, choose the card that you want to be refunded in Apple Pay.
  • On your iPhone, hold the device near the reader and authorize.
  • On your Apple Watch, double-click the side button and hold the display of your Apple Watch within a few centimeters of the contactless reader.

For items that you bought using a Suica or PASMO card with Apple Pay, return the item to the same terminal where you made the purchase before you use Suica or PASMO to make another purchase with Apple Pay.

It may take several days for a refund to appear on your card statement.

Where did you purchase an item?It is up to the store to either refund or provide store credit. Some stores limit the amount of time required to return an item before they will only provide store credit. The store where I work at has a 30 day refund policy.

If you see a transaction you do not recognize or have an issue with a transaction open Wallet>tap on the card used>tap on the transaction (photo 1)>tap on the amount (photo 2)>look for a report an issue link. (photo 3)

photo 1 - select the transaction

photo 2 - click the amount
