Light on power cord stays amber, even after resetting SMC

Last December, I asked this question:

My MacBook Pro's battery is fully charged, but the light on the cord remains amber … for days and days. Any idea why?

And was referred to this doc:

How to reset the SMC of your Mac <https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295>.

This solution worked for a couple of weeks, then the problem returned. Resetting the SMC a second time did not resolve the issue.

Any other suggestions? How serious could this problem be?

The light on my charger cord has been glowing green for several days now.

It's a mystery. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Here's the info about my battery:

Health Information:

Cycle Count: 40

Condition: Normal

Seems the battery is not the problem; so maybe it's the power cord.

Hey sfrench,

It sounds like the power indicator on your charger isn't working properly. We can understand wanting to get that resolved. We want to help.

If the SMC reset does not resolve the issue, that may indicate an issue with the charger which would require a replacement. You can learn more about your service options here: Mac Service and Repair

How many Battery Cycles on the Battery > About this Mac >> System Report and scroll to Battery on Left and see results on the Right. Note if it is saying Service Battery is showing. If so, time to have it looked at via link provided by earlier persons posting
