When I needed to sort out my computer to update to BigSur, the Apple rep suggested I turn off iCloud temporarily. Everything is working again but I don't know how to get my desktop and other files back!

Thanks, I was just being impatient. I’d tried everything as per the instructions. Yes, I could see all my files were available on iCloud so I used my files from there. Turned my computer off a couple times, freaked out a bit. The next day when I logged in they were back.
