Monitor for mac mini

Contemplating purchasing new Mac mini. Found out that I can’t use my old iMac for a monitor as I had hoped. I’m not a gamer or photo/video editor, so I just need a decent monitor of 21- or maybe 24 inches. I don’t understand how many or what kind of ports the setup will require. How can I tell what I’ll need?

You can actually use most any display that has USB-C, HDMI or DisplayPorts.

Some older DVI and VGA monitors may also work, but that's iffy and it best to go with a never display.
