Migration Assistant Help

Hi Everyone!

I had a new M1 Mac mini arrive yesterday and so far it's not gone particularly well.

I previously had a 16" MBP that I have a time machine backup for - when I try to set the Mac mini up in Setup Assistant using that backup - the device will not connect to the internet. It physically connects to wifi (I also tried hot spotting from my phone) but whenever I try and open a web page, it says 'You are not connected to the internet'

So I started a clean install without transferring any data - this does connect to the internet

I then went back to migration assistant to try and transfer the files and applications from the MBP - again it didn't work from time machine - same issue, no internet

I then tried to connect the two devices by Thunderbolt and transfer the files that way - A different error appeared to say 'Unable to connect - MBP could not be reached. Ensure both Macs are on and connected to the same network. You can try temporarily turning off the firewall on this Mac. If the firewall is turned on on the other Mac, also try turning it off'.

The devices are both on and connected to the same network - they are also connected via the Thunderbolt cable

Has anyone got any idea at all how I can sort this?

Thanks

Where are your Time Machine backups located?

(external drive or network drive)

The fastest and easiest way to Migrate, is to connect your MBP's Time Machine backup directly to your new Mac Mini and migrate from it during the initial setup.

This works best if your TM backups are on an external USB drive.

Network migration is too slow, prone to corruption and total failure.
