last created files disappearance

After an unknown error reboot, all files made for the last 3 hours are missed (jpg from scanner and apple note). I tried to find by name, by the time of creation – any file for this period was found. I searched in the trash and in the time machine backup copy. I downloaded one of the recovery apps; nothing was also found. :(

So it looks like all was back to 3 hours earlier; all new files have disappeared.

How can it happen?

How to avoid this in the future?

What I have to check up before all is missed?

Tough to tell why, start with this...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Oh, do you have iCloud Drive enabled perhaps?
